Wild About Music
Description:
The music themed art and gift gallery, Wild About Music, was a 4,432sf remodel of a historic two-story building built in 1865 in downtown Austin on Congress Ave. Long past its prime and typical of older downtown buildings, the existing first floor space had been remodeled during the early 1980’s to serve as a pharmacy and retail space. During the selective demolition of the existing interior wall partitions and spaces, a large concealed masonry arch was uncovered in the middle of the building. It was the remnant of what was once the buildings original alley facing exterior wall from when the building was only half its current size and before it was lengthened to its current area. On the arch were remnants of hand-painted plaster signage lettering. For the renovation, the arch was left as is and serves as a historic feature within the first-floor retail portion of the new gallery. Changing rooms, restrooms, and an employee break room were added at the rear of the building. The second floor, accessed by a new stair, was renovated into an in-house and online sales stock room with an office area, work area and restroom.
