South Lamar Residence
Description:
This project started with an abandoned 1904 farmhouse in Thrall, Texas purchased by the owner with the intent of relocating it to a new home site sixty miles away in South Austin. The farmhouse was first dismantled into several pieces, then transported on semi-trailers, to the new site, then reassembled. The farmhouse then underwent a complete remodel, including the renovation of and addition to its exterior and interior. At the exterior, several new window openings were added to provide more natural interior light and to visually connect the new porches and outdoor entertainment areas to the interior. A new second floor balcony was also added. At the interior, the owner had very specific ideas about how to utilize the house’s new spaces and how they were to be arranged. This included a new family room, office, and piano room; a new modern kitchen with a pantry closet and circular dining booth; a new entry hallway and stairs that eliminated the previous stairs’ low headroom across the hall; a new first floor guest suite; and an enlarged second floor that added to and expanded the floor area into the existing attic space for the new master bedroom, bathroom suite with a peninsula jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower, and walk-in closets.
